WINNING HEARTS

MASKETTA FALL

Melbourne 5 piece MASKETTA FALL conjure up a fine brand of melodic, pop/rock tunes. Their debut, So Contagious, is a bold lavishly textured pop song with great layers and catchy melodies; largely reflecting the playful spontaneity as a band.

If the single alone doesn’t get you excited, be sure to see just how talented these guys are with their clever, and humorous, acoustic mash up of Justin Bieber’s “Baby” and One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful”. Be sure to check it out HERE! I guarantee they’ll win you over with this one!

Make sure you get to a live show also, they really ROCK! :-)

The Final Cut

THE FINAL CUT

Relaxed and reborn – Mornington Peninsula band, The Final Cut, have been working endlessly on their much anticipated EP, due August this year.

Previous works express bluesy bass lines and spiraling guitar riffs – bringing forth a genre the band are calling “Blinding “Pock.” Skittering drums with increasingly strident vocals bring together a joyful blend of old school rock and bubbling dance.

The four piece have grown tremendously since their establishment in 2008; playing live shows, house parties, and even performing sweet acoustic renditions of their progressive rock style.

Making their mark on the Mornington Peninsula’s thriving music scene and emerging into Melbourne’s large indie/rock scene, The Final Cut, are ready for a successful year!

Bring on 2012!

Much Music Love,

Extremely Talented Humans!

Every now and then a drummer steps out from behind their drum kit and reveals themselves as both a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Sharing his beautiful music with us all, Isaac Bradbury (The Universal), is stepping out behind the cloak of his kit exposing himself as a songwriter of quality. He is joined on stage by guitarist and singer/songwriter, Nayomi Pattuwage. Pattuwage, a soul full of classicist, is an artist full of colour with both incredible guitar and songwriting skills. The two perfectly complement one another; two unique voices that fuse together in harmonic explosions. The duo call themselves, Bodies of Wonderland, and you can catch them in their most perfect setting, intimate and acoustic, at Honey Bar on Sunday May 20th at 3:30pm!

Check out this random bunch of images from the month that has been April!

April has been an extremely exciting month that has allowed me to introduce my music to the world… well some parts of Melbourne for now… But I have been so blessed to have been given the opportunity to play shows and share my new acoustic CD, Live for Today, with everyone! Thank you to everyone who has supported me at my gigs this month – we (The Maddison Wilson Band) have had such a wonderful time playing to you all!

To the beautiful miss Bella, who I met briefly at a show on Sunday (22nd), it was a pleasure meeting you and I hope you enjoy the CD I gave you!

I have recently made some gorgeous new friends and seen some amazing new music. Now I must get to get writing about it all…Posting reviews soon!

THE UNIVERSAL

THE UNIVERSAL

BANG!!!!

With the exotic (and perhaps erotic) release of their single, Geelong band, The Universal, are tighter than ever. Bursting with killer songs, and beaming with confidence, the four piece are heavily establishing themselves a strong following – wowing audiences across Melbourne’s live music scene.

Enthralled by a wave of infectious energy, the band always present a phenomenal live show. Deviating from the more “normal” behaviour the rest of the band seem to preserve, guitarist ,Blair Hall, captivates audiences with unpredictable outbursts of dance – or some might say ‘erratic movement’; managing to both do this and play in time. The cannonball propulsion of a drummer, Isaac Bradbury, presents The Universal with an explosion of energy and hypnotic beats, whilst bass player, Cameron Urquhart, without playing metronomically, locks in with Bradbury; paving the foundations of the bands’ music.

I can’t quite finish this review without mentioning lead singer and guitarist, Evan Jones. Powerful, with british twang, Jones’ distinctive vocals are quintessential to The Universal’s unique sound. Together, the four piece are a fresh blast of indie/rock.

“Sexual Intellectual; highbrow ladies with particular sex-appeal. The riff and groove of this track is as beautifully zany as its own title” – Friend and fan of the band, Nayomi Pattuwage, describes the new single.

Their single, Sexual Intellectual; a well-wrought track that beautifully captures the bands eccentric live energy. So shut your eyes and let the wall of sound break over you – it’s extremely hard not to succumb to this awesome storm of noise.. The single is now available for download online.

GNAB!!!!

Establishing himself as a noteworthy singer/songwriter in Melbourne’s music scene, Andrew Lim, has toured nationally performing alongside, as well as supporting, some big name acts in the music industry.

Lim’s debut single “Closer Now” (co-produced with Jimi Maroudas – Kimbra, Eskimo Joe, Pete Murray) is due to be played on air, Fox FM and Nova, early this year. I’ll be posting a review of the single shortly. For now though, you must check out his next show…

From a far off land…

Storytelling: A person who tells stories.

Love: An intense feeling of deep affection.

Mysticism (Mystic): A person who believes in spiritual apprehension of truths that are beyond the intellect.

Carly Fern

Where to begin? I will start with: YOU NEED TO SEE THIS GIRL!@#$%!!! Put this: “Carly Fern and the Humicorn”, in your diary for 2012.

Fern and her mystic creature, The Humicorn – who came to her from a far off land – bring together a gorgeous blend of folk/pop that call fairy floss and freshly-picked cherries to mind. For me, watching this artist perform takes me back to early stages in my childhood, when I simply let my imagination set me free beyond my wildest dreams.

Carly Fern is a beautiful soul with a whimsical sense of humour; an eccentric storyteller. Her music speaks to everyone and reminds us that art is a precious gift to be shared and appreciated, told with honestly, imagination and love.

About three weeks ago I received a unique little package in the mail. It was Fern’s debut album, Desire-Lines. The album is hand-crafted and designed by the artist herself, and includes a beautiful hand-written letter – there’s something about a hand written letter that is so personal and thoughtful. For me, receiving this letter was a very special moment.

Desire-Lines is a body of work that takes us on a musical journey filled with memories, daydreams, wishful thinking and beautifully written tales about hidden treasures and the secrets we keep from the world. Fern tells stories. Stories that take us on a journey through hidden powers and meanings and mystic lands, and encourage listeners to reach beyond the conscious mind; reminding us of the power of believing and the magic that is within imagination. Whilst being quite amazed by how this album sounds and feels – with most of the album being recorded in a garage – it manages to deliver warmth and honesty.

I’ve been a little reluctant to pick and choose parts of this album that I love most, or deconstruct it. If you’ve met the singer/songwriter you’d probably understand this very well. It is honestly because I love it in its entirety. It didn’t leave my CD-player for a week! The blend of sweet folk/pop, with this ‘carnival’, almost psychedelic atmosphere, just makes me smile a thousand times over. Desire-Lines has a consistency in sound and presence that blows my mind. And if you’ve seen Fern play live you will definitely experience this gorgeous connection that I felt as soon as I received the album – it’s an instant love!

Carly Fern will take you far away from earth, where the real magic is.
